Course Content and StructureYou will start with the lathe, the safety basics, and what sets a natural edge bowl apart from a standard form. From there it is into the timber: marking and drilling a square bowl blank, mounting it on a screw chuck, and shaping the back as you practise your ghosting cuts. You will size the foot, then hollow the inside to an even wall thickness, adding beads or grooves if you want them.With the square bowl behind you, you move to the natural edge piece. Here you learn to cut a log to length, find centre, and balance an uneven blank, working to preserve the bark as you turn. The focus throughout is on understanding why each cut works, so the control carries over to every bowl you turn after this.Hands-On ExperienceThis is a hands-on course from the first session. You are at your own lathe turning real timber, with your instructor moving between stations giving direct feedback as you cut.
