Looking for a relaxing, creative activity? Join artist Yvette Swan for a private group online abstract painting class, where you'll tap into your natural creative flow and bring abstract works to life—all from the comfort of home or office.
You'll start by learning essential painting techniques and tools, including washes, layering, brush work, palette knives, feathering, stippling, and stamping. Then, apply these techniques to create your own abstract painting, following along with Yvette's step-by-step demonstration.
No experience necessary.Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to expand your skills, this class provides a solid foundation in techniques you can use across abstract, figurative, still life, and landscape painting. It's relaxed, fun, and all about enjoying the beauty and joy of creating art.
Materials: Bring your own art supplies, or purchase an Artbox in the extras section, which includes paint, a paper pad, and brushes.

An in-person version of this private group class is also available if you prefer meeting at your venue.
What you'll get in your craft kit
There is an option to purchase an art box add-on. This includes an A4 pad of art paper, a set of 12 coloured 12ml paints, and a set of paint brushes. Check this option below when making your booking. The kit will be posted to you, but please allow sufficient time for delivery. Otherwise, purchase your own art supplies for the online class.
Knowledge required
No experience necessary. If you are experienced, this will be a great addition to your skill set.
This is a wonderful class to learn a foundation of tools and techniques that you can incorporate into your creative path, not only in abstract painting but also in figurative, still life, and landscape painting. A great foundation to launch from.
What you'll need
Note: A helpful Colour Mixing Chart will be emailed to you upon booking.
Please bring the following to the class:
  • A small water spray bottle (can be bought from Bunnings, Ikea, supermarkets)
  • Cloths to clean up with: 1 x wet, 1 x dry
  • Water container to clean brushes in
  • 2 small dishes to create paint washes in
  • Palette (e.g., a sheet of plastic, ice-cream container lid, or art palette)
  • Palette knife (very handy for different techniques), or use a piece of strong cardboard or plastic. Something to use in a similar way... even a kitchen spatula.
If no art box is purchased, please bring the following:
  • A set of paintbrushes (e.g., 1 x small, 2 x medium, 1 x large)
  • 4 sheets of art paper for acrylic paint (or an art pad of paper)
  • Small pots/tubes of paint. Primary colours (red, white, black, blue, yellow) and any other colours you like, e.g., green, turquoise, other variations.
Colour Mixing Hint: Blue and red create purple; yellow and blue create green; blue, yellow, and red create brown; white creates lighter tones of colours; black creates darker tones of colours. Bring the colour mixing chart with you (it is downloadable when the class is booked in).

FAQ

Do I need experinece in painting to be able to join?
Not at all. Beginners and experienced painters are welcome. We paint step by step with one another during the tools and techniques section. You are then able to proceed and produce your own painting on canvas. Paint along with me, or create your own piece with my support whenever you want.

Yvette Swan is a Sydney-based artist who creates abstract, landscape, and figurative paintings. She enjoys using colour, line, space, and form to create from the unknown. The inspiration for Yvette’s work is the freedom and aliveness of this, of life.
Yvette graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from the University of NSW, College of Fine Arts. She has worked in the film and photographic industries.
Since 2000 Yvette has been a professional artist and has had over 50 solo and group painting exhibitions, including the Wynne Landscape Prize at AGNSW, Metro Prize, Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Prize, and the Art Series Leeuwin Estate Collection.
Yvette’s work has been part of art consultancy projects, art expos, art prizes, and commissioned works for corporate, design, and private clients. Yvette’s paintings are included in the book “Unfinished Journeys” by Ken McGregor. Her paintings are held in private and public collections.
