It’s that magical time of year when twinkling lights, cinnamon scents and joyful get-togethers fill the air, and what better way to celebrate than with a few festive Christmas activities? If you’re looking for something a little more creative than your usual Secret Santa swap or dinner party, gather your friends and dive into some hands-on Christmas crafts instead. From wreath-making and bauble-painting to candle-pouring and cookie-decorating, these workshops across Australia are the perfect excuse to get crafty and make lasting memories together. As a bonus, these crafty workshops are a great way to make handmade gifts or DIY Xmas decorations.
Whether you’re based in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth, there’s a Christmas workshop nearby waiting to sprinkle some festive sparkle into your season.
1. Festive florals and wreaths
Deck the halls (and tables) with your own floral creations this year! If you’re in Melbourne, grab your friends and head to a Christmas floristry workshop where you’ll design a stunning flower arrangement bursting with seasonal colour. Between sips of tea or complimentary bubbles, you and your friends will piece together vibrant reds, fresh greens and festive textures that’ll wow your dinner guests.
In Brisbane, make a day of it with your favourite people at a wreath-making class, a cheerful and creative way to spend time together before the holiday rush. You’ll play with lush foliage, ribbons and decorative touches to craft the perfect front-door showstopper, all while catching up and sharing a few festive stories along the way.
These floral Christmas activities are the perfect way to catch up with loved ones while making festive flower arrangements to adorn your home or give to a special someone.
2. Make fun decorations and ornaments
Nothing feels more festive than making your own ornaments to hang proudly on your tree, especially when you’ve made them with friends by your side. In Adelaide, get artsy together at a fluid art baubles workshop, where you’ll pour, swirl and spin paint into mesmerising marble patterns. There’s no skill required, so it’s a lighthearted Christmas craft to try with friends. Or, for something truly unique, give a fused glass decorations class a go. The shimmering, light-catching results will sparkle just as brightly as your festive mood.
In Sydney, make your own ornaments out of clay or fabric! Spend a relaxed session with your friends at a Christmas clay class, or for those who are after a little something quirky, try punch needle ornaments. The end results are personalised, gorgeous and perfect for swapping as gifts or taking home as a charming keepsake. For something rustic and easygoing, this wood slice painting workshop is another favourite.
Each of these workshops is a joyful blend of creativity and connection, the kind of Christmas crafts that are both fun and practical.
3. Indulge in sweet treats
If your group’s love language is food, why not turn this year’s Christmas activity into a delicious get-together? In Adelaide, gather your friends for an elegant Christmas cookie decorating workshop and transform plain biscuits into edible masterpieces. Between piping, glazing and sprinkling, there’s plenty of time for laughs, chatting and swapping tips (not to mention the all-important taste-testing).
This class is a perfect mix of fun, creativity and connection. You’ll leave not only with beautifully decorated cookies but also with memories of a cheerful afternoon spent catching up. Who knows, it could even become a new holiday tradition—baking and decorating cookies together every Christmas with your favourite people. The end results also make for great gifts (if you can resist eating them yourself!)
4. Create festive candles and ceramics
When the festive rush starts to feel a little hectic, slow down and enjoy relaxing Christmas crafts with friends that soothe the senses. In Sydney, grab a friend (or a few) and try your hand at festive candle making. Mix, pour and customise your own scented candle while chatting, laughing and swapping holiday stories. Using Christmas-shaped moulds (think cool Xmas tree candles) and blissful fragrances, this experience is as cosy as it gets. Plus, everyone will leave with a personalised candle that doubles as a thoughtful gift or a little self-care treat.
Over in Perth, get hands-on with clay and sculpt your own miniature ceramic Christmas tree. It’s a playful, tactile way to spend quality time with friends, and your finished piece makes a charming centrepiece or a heartfelt handmade gift. Both workshops are perfect for winding down, enjoying good company and creating something special together. It’s a mindful, festive break from the holiday chaos.
5. Make your own Xmas cards
In a world of digital messages, nothing beats the charm of a handmade card. These festive Chrismas activities help you craft beautiful, personalised cards and gift tags that will make your presents extra special.
In Perth, you’ll explore different papers, embellishments and techniques to design heartfelt cards your loved ones will treasure. Over in Sydney, this personalised card and gift tag class adds a playful touch, think templates, stamps and watercolours that perfectly reflect your personality.
Grab a few friends, pour some mulled wine and make it a creative night in. These simple yet joyful Christmas crafts are guaranteed to get everyone feeling merry.
6. Shiny trinket making for you (or a friend)
For a touch of sparkle this festive season, gather your friends and try a Melbourne Christmas jewellery workshop, where everyone will get hands-on with crystals and wire to make festive jewellery like Christmas tree earrings, snowflake necklaces and more.
This is the perfect craft activity for a Friendsmas celebration, and the beautiful handmade jewellery everyone makes doubles as a thoughtful gift or a little treat. Best of all, you’ll get to wear your creations to your next event and look super cute together!
This season, swap shopping stress for laughter and creativity with these festive Christmas crafts. Whether you’re making your own ornaments in Adelaide, baking cookies in Melbourne or trying wreath making in Brisbane, each festive activity offers a fun way to celebrate the season with your friends.
Not only will you head home with handmade treasures, but you’ll also create memories that last long after the decorations come down. So grab your besties, book a workshop and make this Christmas 2026 your most creative one yet.
