In this hands-on session, young creators will create adorable nerikiri sweets (Japanese bean sweets) inspired by Easter Aussie style—an adorable rabbit and a delicate chrysanthemum. Guided by Wendy, a skilled wagashi instructor, kids will learn simple traditional techniques to shape and decorate these charming confections, bringing their edible art to life.
This fun and interactive workshop is perfect for beginners, offering a creative way to explore Japanese confectionery while celebrating the holiday season. Each child will take home their own handcrafted sweets to share and enjoy!

About the Instructor:
Wendy Lin is the founder of Wasei-an and a Urasenke Tea Instructor. During her intensive Chado training in Kyoto 14 years ago, she discovered a special passion for wagashi making. She received training from Oimatsu Sweets, an esteemed Japanese confectionery store established in 1908 in Kyoto. Wendy continues to make seasonal sweets for her tea classes weekly. With the recent increase in interest in Japanese wagashi sweets among the general public, she wishes to impart the joy and art of wagashi making to others, sharing the delight of the changing seasons through these beautiful confections.

Housekeeping:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the workshop's scheduled start time, as we are unable to accommodate latecomers.

Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly class. No prior skills needed.
What to bring
Just yourself and a hair tie if you have long hair. Wear comfortable clothing as you will be sitting on Japanese tatami floor.
