Fresh Spring Plans for Your Melbourne Weekend

Fresh Spring Plans for Your Melbourne Weekend

By Tiffany Fung

Your weekend plans called. They want a little more creativity.

Melbourne is full of ways to make the most of spring, and we’re not just talking about sitting in the sun with a coffee. This season, swap the usual catch-up for something hands-on, whether that means crafting a flower crown, getting stuck into a seasonal cooking class or learning the art of glass lampworking.

Looking for things to do in Melbourne this weekend? Grab your creative crew and try something you’ve never done before.

Get your hands dirty at a pottery workshop

Spring is the perfect time to start a new hobby, and pottery is a pretty satisfying place to start.

Head to a Melbourne pottery class and get stuck into everything from hand building to wheel throwing. You might make a mug, bowl or something wonderfully wonky that earns pride of place at home.

Never touched clay before? No problem. Beginner-friendly workshops are guided by local ceramicists, so you can learn the basics without worrying about making the perfect pot.

We recommend… Booking a beginner pottery class with a friend, then heading somewhere sunny for coffee afterwards. Your first handmade mug deserves a little celebration.

Make your own jewellery

Spring outfits deserve spring accessories.

Instead of shopping for something new, make your own. Head to this silver letter ring making class in Melbourne and make your own DIY ring to take home. It’s a great option for fun date ideas or things to do with friends!

The best part? You can personalise the ring to suit your style! Your jewellery, your rules.

This class is a popular favourite among our CB community. Here’s what they had to say:

“Teacher was absolutely amazing, 10/10 friendly, helpful and clear directions provided. She made the process of making a custom ring easy and fun to do. 100% recommend and will return one day again for another workshop.” - Nicolas C.

Crown yourself queen of spring

Flowers are the unofficial mascot of spring, so why not wear them?

At this mobile dried flower crown workshop, you can turn colourful dried blooms into your very own floral headpiece. Choose your favourite flowers, play with different colours and textures, and create a crown that’s ready for your next picnic, festival or sunny-day adventure.

It’s a particularly fun pick for a girls’ day out. Get the group together, make your crowns and then keep the spring theme going with a café crawl or afternoon drinks.

Make flowers from glass

Spring flowers are lovely. Glass flowers? Even better.

Grab your crew together and learn the art of lampworking! But what actually is it? Well, you’ll learn how to use a torch to melt glass rods and create delicate floral designs from molten glass. No experience required, your teacher will guide you through each step of the way, so you can feel at ease and proud of what you made. By the end, you can take home your glass flowers to add a pop of colour to your home.

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to try a craft that’s completely outside your usual rotation, this is it.

Our very own Class Production Assistant Faith Gelwyn tried the class herself and loved it:

“This was such an amazing workshop, the teacher was so kind and allowed me to do a 1-on-1 session. I am in awe with this craft and would 110% do it again. The studio is cosy and easy to get to from Brunswick station. The teacher is incredibly kind, patient and knowledgeable. There is a very cute corgi.

Lampworking is such a fun craft, after the initial nerves and a bit of a steep learning curve, you hit flow state, and it becomes so relaxing and meditative. The teacher was so incredible guiding me through the process and helping me create the cutest little flowers. I am very excited to visit again and would love to try her jewellery making next!”

Sip, paint and embrace your inner artist

There’s a reason paint and sip classes remain a crowd favourite. They combine three excellent weekend activities: making things, having a drink and hanging out with your favourite people.

Follow along with an artist, brush in hand, while creating your own artwork. No artistic experience required and absolutely no pressure to produce a masterpiece.

Want to turn it into a proper spring catch-up? Grab a group of friends and make an afternoon of it.

And if traditional canvas painting isn’t quite your thing, Melbourne’s creative scene has plenty of alternatives, including pottery painting experiences.

Make a spring feast

Spring isn’t just about getting outdoors—it’s also about lighter, fresher flavours.

Bring along your foodie friends to a spring salad making workshop and learn how to turn seasonal ingredients into something seriously delicious, like smoked eggplant with focaccia and mint or artichokes, beans and peas with harissa and cumin.

By the end of the class, you’ll all sit down to enjoy a meal you’ve just helped make. Consider this your sign to upgrade your usual weekend lunch plans.

Make this spring your most creative one yet

You don’t need to wait for a special occasion to try something new. Sometimes, the best weekend plans are simply the ones that get you out of your usual routine.

Whether you’re crafting a flower crown, cooking up something fresh or discovering a completely new creative hobby, spend a sunny day together making, laughing and learning together.

Consider your spring weekend plans sorted.
