This beginner's class is taught by glass artist Prinita Thevarajah. Prinita will take you through the basics of glass blowing in this one and a half-hour introduction in her Auburn studio. Prinita has taught glass in New York City, London, Toronto, India, and Sri Lanka. She has a relaxed and casual approach to teaching and can travel to your private event or home.

This hands-on class is a great introduction to glass blowing and bending tubes into incredible works of art.

What we'll cover:

  • The basics of glassblowing using a "ribbon" burner
  • Using both clear and coloured glass tubes (you'll learn various types at the workshop!)
  • Techniques such as sculpting, joining, stretching, blowing, and bending
  • Safety talk on using the glass blowtorch

By the end of the class, you'll have made at least one glass vessel that you can share with your family and friends.

Prinita Thevarajah is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in neon and flame-worked glass.

She began Kapu Glass in 2018 after she finished a course in neon at UrbanGlass, Brooklyn, where she also completed a residency in glass beadmaking in 2021.

Through her work, Prinita creates whimsical worlds and rediscovers childhood innocence. Prinita teaches neon bending and provides interactive demonstrations.

Prinita is an amazing teacher. Shows you the basics and motivates you on what you’ve created. Her studio is so cute and has so many pieces that you can use to draw inspiration from and also helps guide you on what might be easiest for you to start with. So much fun
