Over the course of eight 3-hour sessions held every Wednesday evening, participants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in a variety of woodworking tasks and techniques.

This course is designed for individuals with little to no prior woodworking experience and beginners looking to build a strong foundation in woodworking skills.

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the art and craft of woodworking, with a focus on safety, essential tools, and basic skills.

What you will learn:

Safety First: Understanding and implementing woodworking safety protocols, including proper tool usage, protective gear and workshop organisation.
Tools of the Trade: Introducing students to the essential hand and power tools used in woodworking, their functions and maintenance.
Wood Selection: Exploring different types of wood, their characteristics and how to select the appropriate wood for various projects.
Measuring and Marking: Developing precision in measuring, marking and layout techniques, which are essential for accurate and professional woodworking.
Joinery Techniques: Learning the fundamental principles of various joinery methods.
Cutting and Shaping: Practical experience in using saws, chisels, planes and routers to cut and shape wood.
Finishing and Sanding: Understanding the finishing process, including sanding, staining and applying protective coatings to create a polished final product.
Project Work: Applying the skills and techniques learned to complete a beginner-level woodworking project.

Course Structure:

Each night will start with a brief theory session to introduce the topic and demonstrate techniques.
Participants will then have hands-on practice, with guidance and supervision from the instructor.
Projects will progress in complexity, allowing students to apply newly acquired skills.

At the end of the Introduction to Woodworking Course, participants will have the knowledge and experience to tackle basic woodworking projects with confidence.

Knowledge required

Suitable for beginners with no experience up to intermediate students. Children 14+ are welcome to participate in this course (with parental guidance).

What to bring

Students wishing to bring their own PPE should come with a face mask, safety glasses or goggles and earmuffs or earplugs.
Closed shoes are a mandatory requirement for all students.
Those with their own tools relevant to the class should bring them along to get better accustomed to using them, but we also supply all tools if you don't have any.
We have a kitchen on-site with a fridge and microwave for those who want to bring their own food, and there are also takeaway options within walking distance.

Session repeats

This class series runs over 8 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.

This class is great for individuals and couples as well as for a team building activity, birthday or hens party.
