Professional Development Workshop for Educators and Teachers

Deep dives into creative reuse and loose parts play pedagogy and practice

4 hours Class size 1 to 30 guests

  $110 (Afterpay available)

After you've taken a wander around the warehouse, you'll be joining Education Programs Developer Yasmin Andrews to dive deep into the history of open ended play and learn about the benefits of taking risks in childhood as well as how Reverse Garbage structures creative reuse experiences for people of all ages.
This interactive workshop will get you thinking about where your center is in its journey of sustainability and risky play, and develop the skills to move further in embedded practices that support life long learning. We will take a historical and pedagogical look at play, and unpack how commercial and industrial discards can be used in play contexts.
We will then look at the importance of sustainable practices in our classroom, and reflect on what may already be in place at your school to encourage creative reuse. We will discuss best practices, how to source materials, and the benefits for our environment and your students when implementing creative reuse. Finally, the session will include a mini workshop for educators to get in the mind of their students and explore some of the materials that Reverse Garbage brings into the classroom.
Meet other practitioners and share your experiences! We will be sharing the knowledge from our 50 years of sustainable play, and invite you to share your wealth of knowledge as well.

  • 5/5 from Mary Ann Robles, attended Aug 2024: It was my first time attending loose part workshop and I must say, it was awesome. The teacher made more realistic when giving examples which always happens in early childhood setting. Since I don’t drive, getting into the venue is quite hard but the location itself was amazing, most especially the store where I was able to get heaps of resources that educators could use in the rooms. I love how they reuse plastic bottles and hang them on the ceiling. That reminds me of my childhood experienced where we use to make them ourselves as a Christmas lanterns and paroles. All the resources were so cheap especially the fill a bag thingy. Overall, it was a fun and interactive workshop and I am excited to share this with my team.
