3 x 8 hours Class size 9 to 12     label $1,250

Does art call to you, like a scratch under your skin? If so, come create a beautiful artwork that will look extremely professional and you will be proud to hang up at home at this fun and relaxing Sydney workshop!

In this two-and-a-half-day course, all materials including canvas and paints will be provided as well as light supper and lunches, tea and coffee and a whole lot of good fun. This course is suitable to even complete beginners but is also great for artists looking to return to painting after a long absence and the techniques taught in this class are both easy to follow and produce amazing results.

The workshop will begin with drawing our images and exploring the basic techniques that convey a sense of light, shadow and sculptural form. Our reference pictures are of natural shapes and forms such as pebbles, feathers, petals, leaves, dewdrops, fruit, shells, etc; so that you can learn to draw and paint just about anything in a realistic form.

During the course, students will gain a wide range of skills to continue their own practice and will learn different drawing techniques, how to create textured sealed backgrounds, tone and colour mixing with a limited 12 tube palette including black and white, keeping your acrylics wet, how to layer your paints and use light and dark to create depth and richness, which is all used to capture the essence of the painting. Students will produce a range of tonal and colour swatches to develop into a large resolved artwork by the end of the workshop.

There will be regular step-by-step demonstrations on techniques such as chiaroscuro (Italian term which literally means ‘light-dark’) and layering techniques in acrylic.

Develop your skills in drawing, composition, exploring shapes and understanding perspective, learn how to use tones, how to deal with edges and how to paint convincing images all in this Sydney course and take home a gorgeous full-scale artwork at the end to prove it!

I have been painting on and off now for over 30 years, more often now than before and am finally in a place where I can focus on getting better at what I lovf to do…I also lovf passing on my skills and have put together a workshop that has evolved from more than 10 different tutors including: John Wilson, Herman Pekel, Kathy Ellem, Jacqueline Coates, Robert Knight and Barry and Lucy McCahn. So, not only do you get me but you get the knowledge from theses tutors in a comprehensive compact workshop as well as go home with all the art materials needed to start another painting.
I don't set out to produce art about one subject or another, although my work tends to focus on landscapes, seascapes, portraits with lots of colour.
None of it is intentional - it all develops and evolves over time.
I prefer not to explain any particular piece of work - if I've made a picture and that's how I wanted it to be - hopefully it can speak for itself and whatever it says to the viewer - it becomes the right message because there isn't a wrong and a right message. when it comes to art.
Each person takes something a little different from the same picture and I'm happy with that.
My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience; I do love colour and texture and although a realist at heart, I love showing the brushstrokes in each of my paintings...
I lovf to reach a level of photo realism in my work and then once having gained that level of skill; would like to step back and once again show the brushstrokes and different tones, values and hues of colour in any further work…
