Swap roles with your barista for an afternoon at our Marrickville cafe and learn how to make the glorious beverage we gravitate towards every morning - coffee!

Roast, grind, brew and experiment with latte art designs under the guidance of our expert barista in Roastville’s Barista workshop.

Familiarise yourself with the grinder, coffee machine and other machinery, texture milk, understand quality control of espresso and skill up on your barista prowess with fellow coffee lovers.

Our teacher at Roastville, Andy Liu, was a recent NSW Barista Champion, placing first in a highly competitive process. He also won the World tea brewing championship in 2017.

Andy has taught students at all levels in the art of coffee and tea making, from absolute beginners, to other Barista Champions.

This is an excellent class for learning how to refine and pull a great coffee. The class is ran by Roy who is knowledgeable, approachable and makes coffee simple. Roy explains how to correct errors when pulling a shot, as well as explains why you get certain tastes with the coffee and how to fix them. You get about thirty minutes on the machines. I thought there would be more time, but I was not disappointed at all as I learnt a lot more through Roy's demonstrations and explanations. Highly recommended.

Very interesting workshop. Learned a lot about the extraction process, what makes the coffee sour or bitter, milk frothing and pouring. There is knowledge and proper technique with everything. Very passionate and knowledgeable trainer. Starting / finishing closer to scheduled times would have been better. A bit more tasting and comparison of different coffees could be interesting. Overall very good experience.

It was really beneficial class. I could learn how to make espresso, to steam milk with using machine. My class was four people so had enough time to use machine practically. Moreover I could learn how to draw late art, and make about four coffee by myself. I would like to introduce this class to who want to learn comprehensive basic skill and way to make coffee.

Good decision to attend this class. Andrew is our teacher and he explained everything very well. He pays attention to every students and guided us on how to do things properly like from coffee extraction, dosing, milk frothing and latte art. I also like that the class is not crowded were only 4 students on this session which is good.

What was the teacher like? Great teacher with a good energy and enthusiasm.
How was the venue? Good location and great machines to play with.

Instructor was fantastic. Very informative class. Half of the class is a history of coffee including the supply chain and process from fruit to cup. The other half is brewing espresso and making white coffees. Very interesting throughout and enjoyable class.

I thought Kunal was an excellent teacher. I really enjoyed the historical side of coffee making. Roastville was a good venue, easy to socially distance and with excellent facilities. A light meal was appreciated. I left feeling enthusiastic about not making “rubbish “ coffee again.
