5.0 (8)Gilding by Eyespy Collective is run by experienced Sydney-based gilder, Anne. Passionate about Art & Antiques from a young age, Anne has over 40 years of experience in gilding and restoring. She trained in London and later in Sydney under renowned picture framer, Charles Hewitt.
Since 1985, Anne has owned and operated her business ‘Gilty’, where she has built a loyal following and reputation as a specialist gilder and restorer for private and public clients. In 2014, Anne opened an extension of Gilty called Eyespy Collective.
Eyespy Collective is a curated space showcasing a selection of art, antiques and bespoke mirrors. This is where the classes will take place, so you’ll get to experience the store while sipping and gilding!

Gilding is an uncommon skill in Sydney so it was great to learn from someone so experienced. I appreciated the brief history and gilding terminology lesson too. And you get to go home with something you’ve created that you’d actually like to keep in your house. I’d definitely recommend trying this class. No experience needed.

I can’t recommend this class enough. It was a completely unique experience. The teacher is a professional gilder with a ton of knowledge and experience and was very patient in teaching us what to do. We had a choice of using imitation gold and silver and got to gild cute Christmas ornaments. Even just getting to hold the metal leaf was cool since it’s fluttery and pretty. The class takes place in an antique shop so you’re surrounded by beautiful objects and furniture all the while. And it’s right next to Sydenham station so super easy to get to. I’m telling all my friends to try it. Like paint and sip but classier!

Highly recommend for anyone wanting to know the tradition of gilding, and come away with beautiful finished pieces. Anne was incredibly helpful, patient and knowledgeable. We enjoyed cheese and wine while we worked on our pieces. I can’t wait to put the ornaments on my Christmas tree!

Anne and Poppy from Eyespy Collective ran a great gild and sip class with easy to follow directions and reassuring guidance throughout. Anne, a career gilder, shares her insights into all things gilding, from it's history to it's modern applications, within the delightful Eyespy Collective shop front that glints in gold.
The work table was tastefully decorated with the tools, gloves and materials for the class, and aprons were provided.
We gilded Christmas decorations under the helpful gaze of Anne as she took us through the steps at a comfortable pace.
Great experience all around!
