A new year is a great excuse to try something different. To step outside your comfort zone, get your hands moving and see what you’re capable of when you give something new a go.
That’s exactly what our community has been doing, and we thought what better time than now to share some of our favourite stories of just that! From friends trying something new together to solo first-timers, they’ve shown up, tried something unfamiliar and walked away with pieces they’re genuinely proud of. Not because they were experts but because they gave it a go.
So without further ado, here are 10 feel-good moments from our community to inspire your start to 2026. If you’ve been thinking about switching up your routine or getting creative again, let these stories be the nudge to get started!
1. A feel-good team day (with silver rings to show for it!)

Last month, Melissa H. and her colleagues decided to try something completely new together: a silver clay ring making workshop. Four hours of hands-on creativity turned into laughs, learning and a sense of accomplishment for everyone.
“This was such a fun experience and easily one of the best classes I’ve done. Our whole work team had an absolute ball, and everyone walked away with a beautiful ring they made themselves. We were genuinely surprised by how great all the rings turned out, especially given none of us knew what to expect going in. It was creative, hands-on, and a really memorable way to spend time together. I highly recommend this!”
2. A first-time tufting experience that paid off

Ravyn W. stepped into a beginner tufting class a little nervous about the tufting gun, but left seriously impressed by the results. The supportive instructor and step-by-step guidance made it easy to get creative while having fun.
“The class was amazing! I was super nervous to do this, especially when I saw the tufting gun in real life, but the instructor was so lovely and patient with me and really helped me achieve a good result! It was just an overall lovely experience and I would definitely recommend it if you want to get out of your comfort zone!”
3. Discovering watercolours through play, not pressure

Rebekkah L. joined a mindful watercolour workshop as an avid beginner and quickly discovered the joy of experimenting with colour and painting techniques. The class offered space to explore at her own pace while learning useful new skills.
“I loved this class! As a watercolour newbie, I really appreciated being able to learn and try different techniques and do a test design before working on my final design. I noticed such a difference from the start of experimentations to the final design I created. Britt was so supportive and allowed us to follow our own creativity. She was well prepared and had all the materials we could need.”
4. A hands-on afternoon that reignited a creative spark

Melanie L. returned to macramé with a large wall hanging workshop and left with more than just a finished piece. The class offered time, guidance and space to reconnect with a craft she loves and feel proud of what she created.
“This is the second workshop I have done with PidegoArt and absolutely loved it (again)! Hideko is a patient, passionate and knowledgeable teacher and takes the time to work with each of the attendees on a personal level. The end result is that you leave after 4 hours with a personalised and beautifully crafted piece of art that you are proud to hang on your wall at home. My passion for Macrame has once again been ignited and I will take all the skills that I relearned and use them to create my own designs at home.”
5. Getting into the flow with friends and clay
Felicity H. and a friend spent an afternoon hand-building with clay in a relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop. With plenty of time to experiment, they surprised themselves with just how much they could create.
“My friend and I made two to three big pieces and a smaller one comfortably in the time, in a super chill and low-pressure environment! Our teacher Beck, was very knowledgeable and generous with her guidance, but also happy to let us vibe it out when we got into the flow of things. All in all a lovely time, I’d love to come back again!”
6. Connecting with community through drawing
After a year of attending mentored life drawing classes, Gemma H. has seen her skills grow alongside meaningful connections with others. Each class brings something new, keeping the experience fresh, social and creatively fulfilling.
“Catherine is an excellent teacher and her classes are fun with such a wonderful group of people. She always adds something new in the mix each class. This past class, we used pens and a water wash to blend the lines. Over the past year of attending, I’ve developed my drawing skills so much and made some lovely friendships. I can’t wait for the next class!”
7. Creating a scent memory to take around the world

Ruth S. and her daughter chose a perfume making class as a meaningful way to spend time together before a big life change. The result was a deeply personal experience and custom scents filled with memory and care!
“My daughter and I chose this perfume making class as a special activity before she leaves for her gap year abroad. Alyssa, our instructor, was absolutely brilliant, deeply knowledgeable, patient and thorough. We loved the personalised attention we received, allowing us to take time and perfect our creations. We were able to craft bespoke perfumes for each other — a tangible scent memory she can take with her overseas, and I can carry with me. We both walked away with two custom scents, but more importantly, a treasured experience together.”
8. A high-energy class with seriously good results

Cassandra D. and her cousin signed up for a silver ring making class not knowing what to expect, and left with pieces that exceeded every expectation. Plus, they had a whole lot of fun along the way!
“My cousin and I did the silver ring making class and had an absolute ball! Not only were the end products so far past the standard we thought we’d be able to achieve thanks to the patient and forgiving guidance, but the class was FUN. The vibes were high, everybody was encouraging, we were singing along to music, the pace was manageable and the steps were easy to follow. I wear my ring every day now because of the sentimental value and how much I love it. Will be back next time with my partner!”
9. Flying solo and saying yes to something new

Natalie T. attended a sushi making workshop on her own and quickly felt at ease. Clear instruction, a friendly group and plenty of practical tips made it a fun and confidence-boosting experience.
“I had a really fun time even though I attended solo. Everyone was keen to make sushi, the teacher was friendly and easy to understand. She explained the steps at a good pace for us to follow, with lots of tips about the process and even extras like how to cook the rice and miso soup.”
10. Turning a beloved pet into a lasting keepsake

Rashad M. joined a paint-your-pet class and walked away with something enitrely one-of-a-kind. With expert guidance, the experience became both creative and emotional. A true keepsake!
“Blythe is a talented artist and a personable and patient teacher. We left the class feeling like we painted our dearest puppy down to the intricate details we hadn’t expected to achieve. Seeing our puppy’s eyes come to life on the page was an emotional and unforgettable experience. Thank you for helping us create a precious family treasure that will last a lifetime.”
