Meet Laine, the passionate Editorial Manager at ClassBento! Joining the team in late 2019, Laine has quickly become an integral part of ClassBento's success, using her 7 years of writing experience to drive unique content with a key goal in mind: promoting the joy and benefits of creativity. Day-to-day, you can find Laine supporting her team as they craft captivating class listings, writing heartwarming stories from within the teacher and student community and staying up-to-date with the latest Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategies.

With over 30 workshops taken on the ClassBento platform, Laine's love for exploring new skills and crafts shines through in both her work and life. In her downtime, you might find Laine seated behind the potter’s wheel making not-so-perfect ceramics, roller skating around her local neighbourhood or taking her dogs out for an adventure in nature. And if you notice these activities changing week-to-week, that’s because her motto is to never stop learning!

Career Story

Laine began her writing journey studying for a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) at the University of Technology, Sydney. Here she honed her storytelling skills and developed a keen eye for local, trending narratives.

Since completing her degree in 2017, Laine’s words have graced the pages of publications like Travel Weekly, SheSaid, Mamamia, B&T, WILD Magazine, A Girl In Progress and The Ladders. Her articles covered a wide range of topics, from self-development to women’s health and inspirational travel.

Beyond words on a page, Laine’s career has also taken her through the world of television production and digital media. Over four years, she contributed her content and storytelling expertise to prestigious shows such as SBS’s Insight program. She also completed a fun stint on the first two seasons of the BBC’s popular quiz show Mastermind.

Laine tapped into a love of visual and audio storytelling during her time assisting the digital news team at SBS, as well as her early work producing an interview-led podcast for a consulting agency. Now she has brought this ability to craft compelling content across various mediums to her role at ClassBento.

Laine has been able to leverage this experience as an Editorial Manager at ClassBento, combining her expertise in media, storytelling and creativity. Driven by her love of learning and creativity, she continues to inspire her team and ClassBento’s audience with her infectious enthusiasm for craft and community.

In Laine's words

I’ve always called Sydney home and feel lucky to have explored so many different sides of the city. I lived on acreage during the Covid years, traded farm life for the buzz of the Inner West and now enjoy the beach lifestyle down in the Shire.

I live with my husband and our two dogs, who keep us very busy! Outside of work, you’ll usually find me practising yoga or Pilates, creating ceramics at the pottery studio, exploring new cafés and restaurants or searching for the latest local gem.

I’ve interviewed inspiring women, audience members and a wide range of interesting people as part of my work in storytelling.
I love trying new things, which has taken me from journalism to television production and now creative experiences at ClassBento.

Top weekend activity

It depends on the season and my mood! If the sun is shining, I love heading out for a multi-day hike and escaping into nature. For a slower weekend, you’ll find me exploring local artisan markets, discovering new cafés, finding hidden gems or enjoying a good coffee and pastry.

Favourite craft

Pottery. The tactile nature, the mess, it always draws me back. I’d also love to try making my own sourdough one day. It might not be a traditional craft, but there’s definitely an art to it!

3 top tips to recharge and unwind

Take a break from your phone. Or at least log out of social media. It seems like such a hard thing to do, but I promise it feels amazing and you’ll start craving a digital detox more often!
Go for a walk. Sometimes the simplest things never fail: fresh air, sunshine and movement should be a go-to remedy.
Write it down. Journalling or making a list can help clear your mind and make things feel less overwhelming.

3 top tips for embracing creativity

Don’t compare yourself to others. Nothing kills creativity more than trying to fit into someone else’s mould.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Creativity is supposed to be fun!
Seek out inspiration. Yes, Pinterest is great, but don’t forget to go outside and try to spot patterns, textures and details you’d normally never pay attention to. Once you start looking, you’ll realise it’s everywhere.
