What you'll do

In this creative jewellery-making workshop in Perth, you will learn how to make your own unique ear studs from scratch. Sit at a real jeweller's bench and use "real jewellery manufacturing tools" to craft a beautiful pair of earrings to take home with you.

Don't worry if you're a beginner - this workshop is designed for those with no prior jewellery-making experience. Our professional jeweller will guide you every step of the way, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident as you learn.

Over the 4 ½-hour course, you'll have your own workbench and all necessary tools provided.
The small class size, with a maximum of four participants, allows for personalised instruction and guidance.
You'll work with professional jewellers' tools, giving you a hands-on experience in the art of jewellery making.

By the end of the workshop, you'll not only have a pair of stunning earrings to show off, but you'll also have gained valuable skills in jewellery making. Join us for a fun and creative activity where you can unleash your inner artist and walk away with a beautiful piece of jewellery you made yourself.

Throughout this class, you will learn what a real jeweller’s bench looks and feels like. You'll be guided step by step using tools and equipment:

Designing and creating a concept first.
Using prepared flat, domed, stamped Sterling Silver shapes.
OR adding Sterling Silver patterned wires/lace.
Soldering parts together and working with a mini/little torch.
Learn to make ear pins.
Some filing and sanding with emery paper.
Learning to use foot-controlled bench micro motor.
Wet brushing, emerging, texturing, and polishing.
Ultrasonic cleaning.
Finishing your work with different tools and techniques.

Hello my name is Petra. I am trained goldsmith and, now retired, jeweller with more than 40 years in the industry. While working in the industry my jobs varied from designing collections to opening several workshops for some big jewellery chains in Australia.
There is a difference between a goldsmith, who is hands on, and a jeweller who uses finished parts to create their work. Today you also have CAD design via computer-generated 3D models. The materials costs for this are lower and the final product has a different finish compared to a handcrafted piece.
With technology taking over in many ways, the old ways can get forgotten. I have been asked many times "can you teach me?" so I have set up my workshop to have you beautiful people come and give traditional hands-on jewellery-making a go.
The courses are around 4 to 6 hours plus, some day times some evening times and some Saturday all day classes.
The classes will range from creating unique bracelets’, simple bangles, rings in various styles, commitment/wedding ring classes for lovely couples, earrings from studs to drop earrings, brooches and neoprene jewelry necklaces with handcrafted beads or thick trendy neoprene bracelets. But I will start slowly, so keep checking.
Standard tools will be supplied, however any stones/ beads/ findings/ metals material used will be charged extra.
I am happy to teach you how to create some timeless pieces. From beginners to advanced, there is success to be had by you, all you need is patience and the willingness to give it a go because working with Sterling Silver and Gold and beautiful Pearls/Stones is the best feeling ever….see you soon.
