Nest is an Australian charity that weaves waterproof sleeping mats for people experiencing homelessness using recycled plastic bags. These fun Class Bento classes are here to teach this easy method, to give people the opportunity to join with us in weaving these mats.
We pull together communities to:
- Collect recycled soft plastic bags and bottles from collection locations across Australia
- Weave the sleeping mats from the recycled materials
- Teach the simple technique of mat-weaving to students
- Distribute the mats free to homeless centres across Australia
By provide an insulating, comfortable and hygienic barrier between the ground and the person sleeping rough, these mats make it easier to stay warm, clean and dry.
