Drama Course - the Monologue

Now is your chance to give acting a go one night a week for 8 weeks (plus a performance) in a safe and nurturing environment located in Darlinghurst, Sydney.

Beginners acting, The Monologue at Darlo Drama is a fun and exciting introduction to acting that will unlock confidence and creativity and that you never knew you had! You'll be introduced to a group of like minded people who you will likely become like family over the next 8 weeks and beyond.

We create a space for you to have lots of fun and this course is perfect if you have always wanted to try acting or if you wish to discover it again after a long break.

Since 1992 we have proudly developed a team of very supportive, engaging tutors that have a wealth of knowledge to share with you. We will help you to build confidence, feel at ease in front of an audience, whether in a professional or social setting, and introduce you to lots of tools that you can use on stage and in your also apply to your daily life.

Level one course overview
Classes start gently, allowing a safe place for students to PLAY and EXPLORE with fun games, trust exercises and improvisation. As time goes on, your group will begin to get more COMFORTABLE, RELAXED and SPONTANEOUS. You will find confidence in self expression, learning techniques to assist with presenting in front of a group, working through “stage fright” and connecting to an audience while developing your communication skills.

Our expert teachers will take your new found confidence and creativity and show you how to apply acting techniques and exercises to the performance of a monologue. You will work on a monologue script, develop a character, learn voice projection and take direction.

Through the building of deeper, more authentic approaches to connecting to others and embracing a spirit of bravery and generosity will help you to find a greater sense of personal leadership and confidence through acting.

By the end of the course, you will be ready to perform on the Darlo Drama Theatre stage…it sounds daunting we know – but trust us, we are with you every step of the way! We encourage you to invite family and friends to join in celebrating your awesome achievements in a wonderfully supportive environment. And we guarantee that you will love it - there is nothing quite like the buzz of the audience’s applause when you are under the stage lights!

Beginners acting, Level One course focus
Creativity, Presenting, Voice & Movement, Ensemble Work, Improvisation, Imagination & Performance, Developing Performance Confidence & Script Work.

Level One course outcome
At the conclusion of the course you and your classmates will perform monologues with lights and music to an audience of family, friends & fellow students on the Darlo Drama Theatre stage.

Course requirements
There is no experience necessary to participate in Level One at Darlo Drama.
