What you'll do

Looking for unique things to do in Perth? Why not learn a new skill or further develop existing ones during this full day creative experience and try out rug tufting with Get Tuft!

This workshop covers the basics of rug making, how to operate a power tufting machine, an overview of trimming your tufted pieces and the various finishing processes.

With guidance from an expert, you'll learn about the 'express method' to create your own rugs. You'll also learn about the different styles of rug tufting and what you'll need to set up your own tufting rig at home, including the traditional method.

Materials you will be working with during this workshop:

Access to the AK-1 cut pile Tufting Gun
Primary Tufting cloth
Tufting frame 80cm x 80cm
Yarn
Glue
Rug backing.

By the end of this one day course, you will have journeyed through from the design stage to the final product. You will take home your very own tufted mini rug or wall hanging which you can keep for yourself or gift to a loved one.

This hands-on workshop is fun and experimental, while also practical and foundational!

Please note:

Get Tuft strongly encourages you to explore what you want to create before the workshop. As the possibilities and colours are endless, we suggest you keep your design simple and to a maximum of five colours.
Get Tuft will also have examples and plenty of inspiration for you.
If you have particular colour of yarn in mind, please let us know so we can make them available for you.

Hi, we are Australian Sisters living on opposites of sides of our big beautiful country, one on the East coast the other on the West. We have a combined background in fashion, design, recycled glass art, and a love for DIY projects, power tools and arts and crafts. Now, we have a shared love for rug tufting, creating handmade wall hangings and soft furnishings for your home.

Get Tuft was established in 2020 after a conversation about these 'things' called tufting guns. Machines that look like weapons from a 1980s movie, that shoot yarn into fabric with a 'pew pew' of the trigger and bam, now we're making awesome stuff.

Our minds simultaneously exploded with possibilities and chaotic creativity ensued. With the words of the great pop artist Andy Warhol in our heads, we adopted his quote as a mantra:

"Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad. While they are deciding, make even more art."
