Best Family Activities in Sydney

Best Family Activities in Sydney

By Sam Bowden

Despite its vast array of nightclubs, bars and craft breweries, Sydney has so many incredible rainy day activities that you and the kids can enjoy! Whether you’re looking at planning family days out or chasing fun things to do with kids this weekend at home, ClassBento has you covered. Family fun takes so many different shapes and sizes, and what’s perfect for one family might make for the worst possible family activity for another. That’s why ClassBento has a wide range of Sydney’s best family activities in one spot, so you can organise your family fun quickly and efficiently, and spend more time focusing on your clan.

Family activities for staying in

Making time to find fun things to do with kids is so important in keeping the family unit connected. Sometimes, however, you just want to stay in and we totally get that. Keeping up with children is a full-time job and organising family activities shouldn’t have to wear you out, too. Thanks to ClassBento’s LiveBox feature, you can arrange incredible family activities without having to get off the couch and enjoy them together without having to leave the living room! With everything delivered to your door, you and the family can sink your teeth into some of the best kids activities and family fun Sydney has to offer, while still staying cozy in the family home!

It’s no secret that family activities do need to centre around what the children want. You may want to spend your family fun time enjoying a dissection of Newtonian physics, but the children are going to struggle to keep up, let alone enjoy it. But that’s ok! Just because family activities focus on the children doesn’t mean you can’t let your inner child run around for a bit. Kids feed off your energy, so if you’re enjoying yourself, they will too!

As far as children’s activities go, playing with clay is one of the most popular things to do in Sydney when it comes to keeping the little ones busy. Maker’s Loft in Cammeray has an incredible range of workshops and classes, but one of their best things to do with kids this weekend can be delivered straight to you. Their Sculpt A Clay Totem class throws away the notion that pottery is just for making cups and vases. With everything you need to start your pottery journey sent straight to your house (including the clay of course) you and the kids can get to work building an incredible totem and let your imagination run wild! With your pottery master guiding you over live stream, the whole family will learn about the basics of clay hand building and, once you’re done, Maker’s Loft will fire your totem for no extra charge!

Maker’s Loft doesn’t just do fantastic family activities, but if you and your partner need a few hours to yourself, their arts and craft clubs are fantastic for creative little brains.

Fun things to do with kids outside

It’s a big wide world out there, and there are so many things to do with kids this weekend that’ll get you all out and about and enjoying everything Sydney has to offer. We’re sure we don’t need to explain to you the vast array of kid-friendly restaurants, parks and bushwalks at your disposal for your family fun. But if you’ve got a bit more time and a budget to work with, we have some amazing kids activities that everyone in the family will enjoy.

We can’t condone the whole family sitting around and eating chocolates all weekend unless you made them yourself!

Kimberley Chocolates in Lilyfield make some of the best sweet treats in town and their chocolate making classes are open to adults and children alike. You’ll discover everything you need to know about chocolate making, and even create your own chocolate treats! Don’t worry, there’s fondue for you to enjoy along the way.

This delicious family fun is also portable, as the chocolatiers also run mobile private workshops within eight kilometres of their store in Lilyfield. So if you live close by, you can enjoy delicious family fun in the comfort of your own home.

Making chocolate is a scrumptious way to spend your family activities, but it’s not unreasonable to want to be a bit more active. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial, but children don’t want to just run around the block at six in the morning. Or maybe your children do, in which case, that’s awesome. Strange, but awesome. If, however, exercise needs a little bit more coaxing, ClassBento cannot stress this enough: go skateboarding.

No, don’t pull back now. Skateboarding is a ridiculous amount of fun, and Learn To Skate in Redfern can show even the shakiest and uncoordinated parent how to keep up with their kids. With full safety equipment provided and hands-on training to ensure you stay on the board, learning to skate is family fun that you can all enjoy and continue to enjoy together. It’s also a great chance for everyone to stay off the screens and enjoy your family activities without distraction.

Although ClassBento doesn’t run workshops covering the topic of kicking a ball in the park, we highly recommend this one. Just taking some quality time to enjoy the sunshine and turning off from your devices is a fantastic way to reconnect with your family and your kids. It’s old school, but a picnic in the park is one of the best family activities you can engage with. It’s simple, low-cost and encourages you to get out from behind your phone.
