Book Club Experience

2 hours Class size 1 to 40     label $20

If there's one thing we love at Chaotic Social, it's a good yarn. A story for the ages, a tale as old as time, a narrative we can lose ourselves in to forget the bin fire that is the world sometimes.

So pull out your cat's eye reading glasses and grab your largest wine glass and come on over for Chaotic Social Book Club.

The lowdown: we meet every four weeks on the last-ish Wednesday of the month, with a view to focusing on Australian authors (very open to fiery debate about this, of course).

To vote on the next month's book and find out what's coming up, join the Chaotic Social Book Club on Facebook.

The CSBC is hosted by Chaotic Socialite Heather McNab, renowned (in her mind at least) inner west bookworm and pop culture enthusiast.

Covid did a number on all of our attention spans, so you absolutely do not need to be someone who 'reads a lot' (whatever that means) or even at all normally to come along - and if you don't finish the book, who's going to know?

Come alone or with a mate and yell your opinions across the room at people you've just met - sounds like the perfect way to spend a Wednesday evening, right?

We'd encourage you to think about supporting a local independent bookstore when buying books for the CSBC - this is the power of community, after all! - such as our Newtown neighbour Better Read Than Dead or Dulwich Hill's Gleebooks - but feel free to swap, borrow, use your local library, or listen at breakneck speed on Audible when you inevitably forget until the day before (we've all been there babes).

We decide on which book to read for each month via a poll, which could be a disastrous way to choose but we've got to be equal parts Chaotic and Social so let the fun begin!

Feel free to BYO drinks, there’s a BWS like two minutes walk away. Feel free to BYO snacks, or Public House is very close if you want to dine before or after.

Fair warning: I can’t swear there won’t be games, and there will definitely be nametags.

The break of up a decade term relationship and subsequent bouts of loneliness have led me - Sydney’s former Sausage Queen, Chrissy Flanagan - to solve others’ desire to make adult friends, as well as my own.

It’s often said Sydney is a particularly tricky place to make friends as an adult. If you miss out on doing any of the big four locally or at all - high school, uni, work, kids - it’s hard to bridge the gap, leaving many of us lonelier than we would like.

And yet, as adults we’re embarrassed or too self conscious to use modern tools such as friend networking apps to solve this problem.

Chaotic Social, is seeking to bridge that gap, in the form of classes and events, where you’re encouraged to roll solo and go home with a few new mates in your phone.
