Japanese Lantern Pottery Workshop

Sculpt and mould clay into a Japanese lantern at this hands-on Brisbane workshop!

2 hours Class size 1 to 2 guests

  $320 (Afterpay available)

Our Japanese Lantern Pottery Workshop offers a one-of-a-kind experience where you can create a ceramic lantern that radiates light through your name or an uplifting word. Unleash your artistic talents and bring zen to your home!
Guided by Alvin, you'll learn how to sculpt an elegant piece of pottery that can be used in the garden, entrances, pathways and decks where the sun touches it. You'll make the lantern out of clay before it is glazed and fired in the kiln.
The writing is in Japanese characters using the maker's name or an uplifting word such as happiness, love, peace, harmony etc. The total height of your ceramic piece is about 30 cm.
Its small solar panel generates power during sunny hours and radiates light through the name carved in it at night. The duration of its light depends on the power generated by the sun on its panel.
Enjoy the relaxing and mindful practice of hand building pottery and take home a welcome and beautiful lantern for your home!
What you'll get

I have always enjoyed working with my hands since I was young, which has made me skilled in many crafts. I am knowledgeable in various crafts that I have practiced in the past and continue to do as needed, including furniture making, boat building, paddle making, furniture restoration, polishing, wood turning, metal crafts, and Tai Chi.
I have a shed/studio where I work on my personal projects.
I am an active member of the Redcliffe Pottery Club and the North Pine Trade and Foundry Club. I learn and share my skills through these clubs. I previously had a furniture making business and am currently involved in jewellery making.
During my in-person workshops, I welcome NDIS Support Workers to attend for free. If they are interested in joining the workshop, payment is required.
