This session focuses on crafting two full cloth-covered case bound book with a flat and rounded spine. This form the foundation of your traditional binding skills.
Ideal for writing journals, sketchbooks, or gifts, these handmade books serve as the perfect foundation for traditional book collections.

Multiple section sewing techniques
Creating hardcovers
Covering in bookcloth
Casing your books in two different styles
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will depart with two of their own hand-bound journals and the skills to continue crafting at home with minimal equipment.

Knowledge required
This class is rated Level 1 in our course programme. As such, it is not beginner-friendly.Level 1 courses focus on traditional bookbinding, and after 1A and 1B, do not have to be taken consecutively. 1A and 1B form the basic requirement to proceed to other courses in the bindery.
This is a technical workshop introducing intermediate bookbinding skills, improving your capability and confidence in using sharp instruments. You will need to have completed our Making Books by Hand 1 or already have some basic bookbinding skills.
Being able to follow verbal instructions and visual instructions is expected.
