What you'll do
Looking for unique things to do in Sydney? Come and learn from an expert sculptor!
Join an eight-week course and experience customised guidance from an internationally exhibiting and award-winning artist on how to sculpt with clay using traditional hand-sculpting techniques. In this course, you will make a one-off sculpture. Your work could be kiln-fired or moulded by arrangement after the course.
Enjoy working in a large, purpose-built, professional art studio set in a subtropical-inspired garden in Haberfield. Class sizes are limited to ensure plenty of individualised tuition. You will be allocated your own shelf to store your work and materials between classes.
During this course, you will learn:
- How to join and sculpt clay
- Different hand-building methods
- About different modeling tools and their uses
- Fabrication techniques so that clay can be fired
- When to know if an armature (internal support) is required
Free, unrestricted street parking available. Leichhardt North or Hawthorne light rail are a beautiful 400m walk to the studio.

Knowledge required
Whether you're a complete beginner who has dreamed of sculpting but feels unsure where to start, or a more experienced ceramist/sculptor, this course is ideal for you!

Your teacher
I am a Sydney-based exhibiting artist with a beautiful art studio set within a large subtropical-inspired garden in Sydney's Inner West.
My life-long passion for making very fine artworks includes sculpting, painting, drawing, and textiles. I also have a passion for teaching others, and love to support those wishing to find their own creative journey - whatever that may be or whatever shape it might take!
Unusually, my practice is multidisciplinary, so I cover many aspects of artmaking using a range of different materials and skills. For example, working three-dimensionally, my skills include sculpting and mould making. I work in materials such as clay, bronze, silver, wax, wood, aluminium, polyurethane, plaster, resin, concrete and even patillage (sugar-plate)! For two-dimensional works, I paint in oils, acrylics and watercolour. For drawing, I generally use lead pencil, pen and ink, charcoal and crayon in order to achieve great detail, but at other times, playful media, such as wire.
I hold a PhD and Master of Fine Arts (both 1st-class division equivalent) and a Graduate Diploma of Education. Along with private tuition in my studio, I've also taught in the Sculpture Department at UNSW Art and Design, within community adult education, rural and remote high schools.
