Create a beautiful and unique pedestal bowl and learn professional tips and tricks for working with clay and texture from designer and ceramicist Rina Bernabei. This is a unique opportunity to learn how hand-building techniques to make a pedestal bowl.

Rina Bernabei’s work encapsulates her years of practise as a product designer and explores relationships between handmade craft practices and digital technologies and manufacture. Her ceramic practise reflects her research of emotional design and the relationships between handmade craft practices and digital technologies and manufacture.

What to expect:
This is a two-part workshop held over two consecutive days. Your tutor, Rina Bernabei, will guide you through the making process and help make your experience productive, rewarding, and enjoyable.

Day One:

  • Planning, instructions, and demonstration of slab rolling
  • Compressing and preparing slabs to make your base and bowl
  • Construction of pedestal base
  • Make your bowl

Day Two:
  • Connection bowl to base, smoothing, and finishing.
  • Instructions and demonstration of carving methods to be applied to the base.
  • Application of decorative carving to pedestal bowl.

Knowledge required
This is a class for all levels. Some basic experience is helpful, but beginners are welcome.

What to bring
Bring your own small pottery knife or small fruit knife, and any carving tools you have.

All other materials are supplied for this workshop.

Your work will be glazed and fired after the workshop and will be available for pickup 2 – 3 weeks later.
