Jewellery Workshop: Wax to Sterling Silver

Learn the lost-wax-casting process to create sterling silver jewellery

6 hours Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 4 to 10

label $290 (or 4 payments of $72.50 Afterpay)

During this single day workshop, your teacher Laura of Coral Covey will guide you through the design and creation process so you can make your own sterling silver pendant, ring or set of earrings.

Laura will introduce you to ancient jewellery techniques as well as some secret ones that she has developed within her own practice. You will learn how to carve and form jeweller's wax, which Laura will cast for you into solid sterling silver.

The workshop will begin with refreshments while you look out over the Kinglake National Park. Shortly after, Laura will explain the lost wax casting process stage by stage. She will guide you on choosing the right tools, selecting and carving the right jewellers wax, and realising your creative ideas.

Laura will explain a range of traditional wax carving techniques such as carving, sawing, filing and polishing. There will be multiple demonstrations along the way with individual tuition, specifically tailored to guide each student through the ideas behind their individual design. We will break at 1 pm for a fresh lunch cooked on site.

This workshop is designed for people of all ages and abilities. You will be encouraged to experiment with wax carving and moulding to create your own pendant, ring or set of earrings. To ensure individual attention can be given, class numbers are limited to six people per workshop.

This was so much fun, a small intimate class so lots of one on one assistance. Laura was incredibly skilled and the food that was provided was delicious! The cost of the silver is included, some classes charge extra. Am really looking forward to seeing the final product.

Such a wonderful class. Laura is so knowledgeable and we felt right at home. She supplied us with amazing food and drinks and the small class size made it all the more enjoyable.

Check out her website and book from there so you can directly support Laura.

I can highly recommend Laura's (Coral Covey) jewellery classes! Laura was filled with warmth and made us all feel comfortable the whole time - like we were guests invited into her home. Her gentle guidance and wealth of knowledge let us know we were in very good hands. I learnt heaps from the class and feel confident to make more pieces on my own in the future. Laura provided all the tools and materials that we needed to fulfil whatever creative ideas we had and all our ideas were validated and supported. All the class members in my group made completely different pieces, which was a great strength of Laura's workshop! In other classes I have been to, the options are often quite limited. For this reason, I think Laura's workshop was great value for money! The lunch she made was also amazing!
