Sink into the mindful craft of pottery as you learn how to hand build and paint DIY ceramics in Marrickville!

This beginner-friendly class is for everyone! You will learn basic and fun hand-building techniques using clay to make your own pots, plates or bowls. Ceramicist Shannon will teach you basic skills you can use to make your own ceramic pieces and show you how to decorate them by painting them with underglaze.

During the class, you will make and decorate one to two pieces and finish up with pottery skills for a lifetime, that you can use to make pots that last for many years to come.

Clay Cartel was created by three professional potters who work in the studio full time. We have created a place for beginner and emerging potters to learn, hone their skills and experiment with their craft with a community of like-minded friends.

I went to a workshop with my sons partner to enjoy a creative activity together. We had a wonderful time in the hand building workshop. The teacher was helpful and relaxed, it was amazing how much we covered in 2hours, plus we learnt at an enjoyable relaxed pace. We had great demonstrations to help understand what we were meant to be doing, with loads of materials to be creative with, in a friendly comfortable setting. I would definitely recommend and look forward to going back again.

I especially liked we could decide on what we wanted to make from a coil building workshop, like a cup, bowl, plate or vessel. The lesson wasn't totally prescribed and had room for your own creative expression. I really enjoyed adding texture to the clay too.

Did a short hand building class and had a great time. The class is small and got lots of attention with most of it being hands on. Well suited to beginners - one was a very shy young kid who was included and catered for as much as the rest of us. Mostly it was fun and a good way to spend a Saturday morning doing soemthing creative and enjoyable.
