2.5 hours Class size 1 to 5

label $120 (Afterpay available)
Embark on a botanical art adventure with Parish Stapleton in this Botanic Cyanotype Printing Workshop. This session offers an intimate look into the captivating world of Cyanotype. This camera-free photography technique merges science and art to create ethereal images with distinctive Prussian blue hues.
Parish’s creative practise focus is on beauty & nature he is continuing his investigation with exploration through PLAY with no particular destination in mind. He invites you to join the journey.
Our exploration pays homage to the innovations of Sir John Herschel, who unveiled this technique in 1842, and to Anna Atkins, whose pioneering work in the Victorian era established the first photographic book using Cyanotype to document the subtle beauty of British algae and ferns.
Under Parish's expert guidance, you'll delve into the rich history and intricate processes of Cyanotype art. Learn to mix specific chemicals and prepare paper that reveals stunning designs and patterns once exposed to the sun/UV light.
Parish will guide you through the composition and design aspects, ensuring your artwork captures the delicate balance between light and shadow, nature and imagination.
This hands-on workshop invites you to experiment with various materials such as pressed flowers, plant cuttings, feathers, and lace to create unique photograms. You'll also have the chance to explore using stencils and digital negatives, discovering the unexpected joy of revealing your final image.
Participants are encouraged to bring personal botanical items or any special element from nature they wish to immortalize in their artwork. While we welcome fresh botanicals, we recommend thinner, pressed specimens for the clearest prints.
At the end of our two-and-a-half-hour session, you'll take home the knowledge and skills to continue exploring Cyanotype on your own, three exquisite paper prints, and a set of 3 custom greeting cards, each a testament to your creative journey.
Designed for both novices and enthusiasts of photography and botanical art, this workshop promises a tranquil, supportive setting for creative exploration, accompanied by a delightful morning tea.
Workshop Highlights:
  • Bring an apron or old shirt.
  • Small group setting limited to 5 participants for a personalised experience.
Perfect for individuals, couples, or groups looking to celebrate a special occasion, this workshop is a unique gift for anyone eager to explore the intersection of art, nature, and history. It's an inspiring way to spend time learning a fascinating art form in good company.
