In this live online class, you'll skip the baking and focus on the fun stuff: cookie decorating! Anna Maria will virtually guide you as you learn how to decorate five sugar cookies (provided in your craft box) using royal icing.

Royal icing is a mixture of fresh egg whites or meringue powder, water and icing sugar lightly beaten to the required constancy. It has been used to cover and decorate wedding cakes for years but fell out of fashion with the invention of fondant. It is however still used to decorate cookies, gingerbread houses as well as fine piping details on wedding cakes.

The smooth thick constancy of royal icing will harden when exposed to air and dry leaving a glossy shine. The decorated cookies will keep for several weeks.

During the class, you'll be taken through the fundamentals of royal icing, including basic piping skills, like drop line piping, flooding, how to hold the piping bag and how to apply royal icing on the cookie. You will learn how to pipe roses, lines, polka dots and a marble technique.

The learning outcome from this class can be applied to many other cookie designs and occasions. And at the end of the class, you will have five pretty cookies and all the skills to continue cookie decorating at home.

What you'll get in your craft kit
  • Five round vanilla sugar cookies
  • Four piping bags of royal icing (1 x white, 1 x hot pink, 1 x pale pink, 1 x green)
  • Three toothpicks
  • Class notes with recipes so that you can recreate your cookies again later!
What you'll need
Wear an apron to avoid any messes! You will also need a pair of scissors to cut the icing bags and a damp cloth to avoid sticky fingers! You will get everything else you need to make these pretty cookies in your box.
 
Suitable for

This Box and Live class is a great indoor activity idea for individuals and couples as well as for virtual team building activities at home. Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 14 years old). An adult must be present whilst kid(s) engage with the box.

Anna Maria has successfully taken part in many prestigious cake competitions and has won many awards.

In October 2013 Anna Maria founded her own business, “Anna Maria Cake Design”. Besides designing and creating gorgeous cakes, she creates tutorials for companies to promote their cake decorating supplies and equipment.

She conducts private lessons and teaches at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu and other private institutions across Australia and overseas. She is very proud to see how her students' individual journeys have progressed. Many have gone on to have successful businesses of their own in Australia and overseas. Anna Maria was a nice teacher and generous with the amount of cookies and icings. She did go a little fast but I got the hang of it afterwards. The cookies turned out great and I would definitely recommend.
