Introduction to Pottery Class

2 hours 1 to 2 label $170 - $220 ($220 per person when you book for 1 student, $170 pp for 2 students)

Join me in my cozy studio for this private or semi private session, and let me guide you through the foundational skills in pottery, of centering clay on the wheel and making a bowl.

You'll spend the first few minutes saying 'hello' to the clay and doing some brief activities to get a feel for the pottery wheel.

Next you'll see a step-by-step demonstration on the wheel, and you'll be guided through the stages of making a small wheel-thrown bowl. Wheel throwing makes it easier to create polished, refined and symmetrical bowls. It takes a little skill, but that's what this class is for!

If you'd like to stretch this class out so that you have more time (which you can decide on the day after experiencing it), that's possible too.

You'll leave your bowls with me to be fired (takes between 2-6 weeks as it depends on my firing schedule.)

Alternately, you can bring your own idea to class and I can guide you through the process of making it in clay, either on the wheel or by handbuilding.

The price includes materials and firing one bowl per person with a clear glaze, which will be posted to you.

The class is for 1 or 2 people (if you book for just 1 person, it will be a 1 on 1 class). If you're interested in a general pottery class without using wheels, I can accommodate maximum 4 students, just get in touch with your preferred date(s) and I can send you a custom invitation to book.

5.0 (25)

I studied at UNSW Art & Design and Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, and have been teaching ceramics for 10 years.

I'm passionate about pottery because it's great for creativity and wellbeing. Wheelthrowing is both meditative and fun, and creates a sense of peace, and a connection with nature and the earth. Like martial arts, where you harness your opponent's force and energy, you balance, manage, and build on the spinning force from the pottery wheel, using your own, to make something beautiful.

Fantastic class by an amazing teacher. I can't believe how much I learned and that I actually produced a pot on the wheel in 2 hours. Loved every minute of it. Leanne is extremely talented and is so very good at explaining techniques. If you want to try pottery this is the workshop to do.

Leanne was a great teacher - she was very good at explaining things, and provided a great mixture of demonstrating, but also letting us learn by trying things for ourselves. She also gave us options, so we could tailor the class to exactly what we wanted. She provided all of the equipment and even sent our final products out to us - it was good value for money. Highly recommend!

We had such an exceptional experience with Leanne! Her teaching style and instruction was so good and being able to have such a personalised class with her guidance was just amazing - and with a guaranteed product to take away at the end of it too! Can’t wait for our bowls to arrive so we can put them to use! Thank you Leanne!

Leanne is awesome! She is a fantastic teacher - very experienced, attentive and patient. We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot during the 2 hour session. In addition to learning how to make a bowl/cup on the wheel, we learnt a bit about the holistic process. Her studio was cosy and well-equipped. Would recommend checking out Leanne's class!
