Want to learn more about hand building and wheel throwing? Join our beginner six week course with Pots and Bobs!

We will start with an introduction to clay and the hand building process, including techniques like slab building with impressed textures and shaping forms using pinched pots and coils.

Then, we'll move onto wheel throwing. Your teacher will guide you how to prepare the clay, centre clay on the wheel, demonstrations on ‘opening out’ and ‘pulling up’, compressing bases to create your ceramic pieces on the wheel.

Not to mention, you'll also learn about applying decorative techniques with stamps, liquid underglaze colours, slips and oxides.

By the end of this class, you can take home beautiful ceramic creations that you can cherish forever!

Note:

  • We prefer to use a slightly groggy clay for hand building, a smoother clay for throwing on the wheel and, unless otherwise mentioned, will fire to around 1222C (cone 6) which gives you a functional finish on your pieces.
  • If you would like to bring your own project to work on, or if you want to bring your own clay and/or glaze, please contact us for more information.
