  • On breakage: If your piece breaks and you'd like to try again, we'll offer a free open studio class for you to make another.
Note: If you’d like to paint additional pieces, they’re $20 each, which covers the cost of the bisque and glazing.

How I got started
I came to Chinese ceramic painting through a desire to slow down. After years working in design, I found myself drawn to processes that required patience and attention rather than speed. Discovering traditional techniques such as Qing Hua (blue-and-white underglaze) and Fa Hua Cai (slip trailing with float washes) completely changed how I thought about making.
A pivotal moment was travelling to Taiwan and Malaysia to study these techniques directly with experienced ceramic painters. Learning in traditional studio settings where repetition matters and progress is gradual, helped shape both my skills and the way I now teach.
Why I love teaching
I love teaching because I remember how intimidating ceramic painting felt at the beginning. Many people arrive believing they “can’t draw” or aren’t patient enough. These techniques are less about talent and more about learning to observe, slow down, and work step by step.
Watching students relax, focus, and surprise themselves is the most rewarding part of my practice.
Something you might not know
Ceramic painting is a slower, more attentive process than it first appears. Brush control and timing develop gradually, and I enjoy helping students understand that learning happens through practice, not perfection.
Experience and background
I teach small-group classes designed for beginners, including students with no prior painting experience. I have participated in public exhibitions and ceramic shows, and I continue to develop my practice through ongoing study and studio work.
What to expect in my classes
My aim is to create a calm, welcoming space where people can slow down, learn a traditional craft, and leave with both a finished piece and a sense of quiet accomplishment.
Qualifications and experience
I hold a Diploma in Visual Communication. My background in design strongly informs my ceramic practice, particularly in areas such as composition, visual balance, colour, and attention to detail.
My work has also been featured in The Rural Woman Magazine, and I continue to develop my skills through ongoing studio practice and study.
