This ai-zome indigo dyeing workshop will teach you some traditional Japanese dyeing techniques that you can do at home. Kids are welcome!

Ai (indigo) is a dye extracted from the Japanese indigo plant. This unique blue hue is also sometimes called 'Japan blue'. The indigo dye technique works only with natural materials and fabrics like cotton, silk, linen, leather and paper - as long as it's a natural material, not synthetic, they can be dyed!

You will need to bring natural pieces of cloth to dye, it can be a handkerchief, t-shirt, scarf, pillowcase — anything that will fit into a regular-sized 3.5L bucket. You can bring as many items as you can dye for two hours! Dyeing one item needs approximately 20 minutes.
