Soba is the Japanese name for buckwheat. It usually refers to thin noodles made from buckwheat flour or a combination of buckwheat and wheat flour. Soba noodles are served either chilled with a dipping sauce or in hot broth as a noodle soup.

In this fun and hard work cooking class, you will learn how to make your own soba noodles from scratch.

This class held in the stunning Blue Mountains just beyond Sydney is perfect for beginners. You will be introduced to the soba noodle-making process, which involves a different than usual mixing and kneading technique followed by rolling with two long wooden three centimetre poles and eventually thinly cut with a soba cutting knife.

The making of noodles (90 minutes) will take place in another classroom on the first level of house before actually cooking the noodles in the kitchen (second level).

At the end of the class, you will have the chance to taste your hard work and will leave the skills to continue making soba noodles at home.



Knowledge required
Suitable for bakers, noodle makers and people with patience. As this is not an easy skill, it takes practice and time to become skilful at soba making; especially hundred percent pure buckwheat noodles.

Kathryn's Soba making class was really informative and lots of fun. She is a really great teacher and incredibly knowledgable in preparing such labour-intensive foods such as Soba!
Soba is a very intimidating thing to try and learn on your own, and Kathryn offers really important hands-on information and tips throughout the whole lesson. When I try and make soba on my own, I'll definitely be putting into practice and trying to improve with everything she taught me!
The space we learnt in was tidy, clean, and very homely. I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to get proper foundational skills that will be really helpful in all my cooking endeavours! Thank you so much Kathryn!
