I’m not particularly artistic and don’t even wear rings, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I ended up having such a great time and discovering a creative side I didn’t know I had. I made a ring for my partner, which turned out to be a really special and personalised gift. The fact that it was a complete surprise made it even more meaningful! Alfie and Delfi are the best! They’re super supportive, patient and great at teaching you every step of the process, making it easy and enjoyable regardless of your experience. The workshop has a fantastic vibe, whether you go with friends, as a couple or on your own. You can get creative, enjoy a glass of wine and share the experience with others. If you’re hesitant because you don’t consider yourself artistic or don’t usually wear jewellery, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. It’s also a great idea for a unique gift for your partner or a friend. Couldn’t recommend Haina enough! ️ + more

Whether you’re spoiling your partner, surprising a friend or treating yourself, experience gifts offer fun, creativity and connection, no wrapping required. From pottery and pasta making to perfume blending and painting your pet, Sydney’s got loads of unique experiences that make the big 4-0 feel special. Forget the usual bottle of wine or box of chocolates, these Sydney experiences are here to elevate any 40th birthday celebrations and make memories for life.
Top 40th birthday gifts in Sydney for 2026
By the time 40 rolls around, most people have the basics covered, so instead of another thing to dust, give them something to do and an event to celebrate. Experience gifts bring people together for creativity and fun, and often result in a keepsake to take home (besides just the stories).
Want to impress a foodie? Try a sourdough baking class or a vegan Indian cooking workshop. These tasty sessions are a delicious departure from dinner reservations, and your birthday giftee will learn skills they can use for years to come.
If they’ve been craving creativity, try something tactile like a kintsugi class or fluid art workshop, great for slowing down and making something beautiful.
For a splash of luxury, there’s jewellery making or wine tasting workshops. They’ll feel pampered and leave with new favourites to enjoy.
And if they love a group vibe, why not plan a birthday celebration at a paint and sip or dumpling-making class? These shared moments create inside jokes, lasting memories and a whole lot of laughter.
Whatever their vibe, there’s an experience in Sydney to make them feel special on their birthday.
Meaningful 40th birthday present ideas for her
She’s forty and fabulous, and she deserves a birthday gift that’s just as thoughtful, stylish and unique as she is. If you want to go beyond a generic present, these meaningful experience gifts will hit the mark.
- Perfume making – Let her create her own signature scent in a luxe, hands-on workshop that feels totally personal and indulgent. As a bonus, she’ll get to take home her custom perfume, which she can spritz whenever she wants to add a touch of luxury to her day.
- Cocktail making – Shake things up with a fun, interactive class where she’ll learn to mix drinks like a pro. This is the perfect gift for party prep or a birthday night out.
- Chocolate making – A sweet way to celebrate turning 40, this delicious workshop lets her craft handmade treats (and taste-test along the way).
- Wheel throwing – Give her the joy of clay-covered hands and creative flow in a pottery class that ends with a beautiful handmade keepsake. Wheel throwing classes are perfect for groups and parties.
- Paint and sip – Wine in one hand, paintbrush in the other! It’s relaxed, colourful fun, perfect for celebrating a birthday with friends.
No matter her interests, these experiences allow her to pause, play and reconnect with herself. Because turning 40 deserves more than a scented candle from the shops!
Unique 40th birthday gifts for him
Not sure what gift to get for the guy who insists he doesn’t need anything? We’ve got you covered with 40th birthday gifts for him that are less “last-minute gadget” and more “this-is-so-me.”
- Knife making – Get him hands-on with fire, steel and craftsmanship in a workshop where he’ll forge his own blade from scratch. If he fancies himself a bit of a viking, this is the gift for him.
- Whittling – A meditative, outdoorsy gift idea that’s perfect for a chill, practical type who loves to work with his hands.
- Pizza making – He’ll master dough, toppings and the perfect cook in a class that ends with a delicious handmade feast. This gift elevates the typical birthday dinner and is a super fun group celebration.
- Whisky tasting – Smooth, sophisticated and packed with flavour—ideal for a birthday celebration with depth (and a few drams).
- Acrylic pouring – Surprisingly satisfying, this creative workshop blends colour, chaos and calm, great for a low-key yet expressive gift.
At 40, he deserves something that isn’t just “stuff”. He deserves a story, a memory and maybe even a new hobby to bring into his next chapter.

You can personalise the experience to their tastes—foodie, arty, chill, adventurous—and make the day all about them. Plus, there’s no need for gift wrap. Just book, show up and enjoy the fun.
So if you’re searching for 40th birthday present ideas in Sydney, skip the stress and go for something hands-on, heartfelt and way more memorable than a pair of socks.
