Sydney Cooking School opened in 2010 when Executive Chef Brett Deverall pursued his dream to share his love andpassion of cooking in a fun and relaxed learning environment. Offering a range of cooking classes daily, our Neutral Bay venue is fitted with state of the art appliances and equipment from Fisher & Paykel, Breville and Anolon.

Our experienced and passionate team take pride in teaching practical, entertaining and informative cooking classes or hosting your next event.

We have a variety of themed menus and packages available, and our formats are suitable to anyone, from the absolute beginner to the more passionate cook. As well as our regularly scheduled classes, we offer masterclasses in Pastry, Chicken & Duck and Pork & Cider, as well as Children’s School Holiday classes.

If you prefer to be out of the Kitchen join us in our fabulous BBQ area for one of our Popular BBQ classes – Things really heat up in these classes so ensure you dress comfortably.

Location of the place was good there is a pub across the road if you wanted to have some drinks after a nice cooked meal. Parking wasn't the best but there are heaps of off streets to look down. My first cooking class I have ever done, wanted to try a cuisine that I was not familiar with (French) I will admit that my expectations were low. I wasn't sure I was going to like the menu as much, however 3 plates clean it was so delicious! Everything was provided and it wasn't as hard as you would think. Teacher was funny and the class overall was good vibes. They also offered some wine with our dinner. Will def book again! you should too!

The class was a birthday gift from friends. It was my first ever cooking class. Brett is a fantastic host and had everyone chopping and cooking early on. I had my own work station with everything I needed right there. From chopping the garlic to sweating the onion, we made a fabulous tomato sauce. We prepared chicken breast and made an amazing marsala sauce. We received a glass of wine each as we ate our individually cooked meals and dessert!

One thing that was particularly enjoyable is the prep work was done, cutting the condiments and basics so that we could jump right into as usually that takes a bit of time and that's not really what we're there for. All 5 dishes we made were very delicious, practical and healthy. I highly recommend this class and the chef!

I enjoyed the last Italian cooking class with Brett and decided to sign up a Spanish cooking class again with him and was not disappointed. It was another well-prepared and fun cooking class with people that enjoyed it. Learnt what do to when cooking a paella and got some handful tips from my neighbour. The good and sangria was lovely. Took my father here for his birthday. He is not a cook and his only charge in the house is the occasional bbq (with people telling him when to take things off). That doesn't mean he doesn't want to learn.

I gave him 4 class options for his birthday and he picked this one.

The class was interactive, with everyone participating as a pair, we learnt lots and ate a lot!

I absolutely loved the pasta and gnocchi class. Had bought vouchers for 3 family members so we did the class together which was so much fun.

The teacher was great and very engaging. I liked that the class wasn’t over crowded so he could spend time with all of our wins (and save the fails).

I really appreciate that while we learned how to make pasta from scratch (have since cooked and was up there with the best I’ve ever tasted), we learned some time saving cooking hacks. Who doesn’t want to be able eat the most delicious ricotta gnocchi as an easy weeknight meal?

I’m already planning which class to do next with the family.

The 3 course French Cooking Class was wonderful. Brett, the chef and teacher has a wealth of knowledge and serving tips that you don't get reading a recipe. In this instance, I learnt how to pre-prepare most of the food for a dinner party, including a double baked cheese souffle! It was a fun and entertaining class. I highly recommend it.

Hands down the best cooking class I have done so far. Everything is organised, with a mixture of self-cooking and watching instructor cooking. We ended up tasting our own food with wine offered by the house. I have to say the freshly baked focaccia is the best I have for a long time (although the chef Instrutor takes 100% credit).

My daughter and I decided it would be nice to do something 'different' together. We both like cooking and we didn't know much about pasta.
Our teacher was great; the right balance between being personable, interesting and time efficient.
Everything was so well provided; we didn't know what to expect but to provide an overview, you arrive, there was about 17 of us. We were told a bit about what we're going to cook, we were given a demonstration and then each person is provided with ingredients and materials and away you go. Of course, you forget the instructions, but the team is there to help and get you out of trouble.
The end result was delicious. We learned how to make pasta and tonight we're going to use the pasta we brought home and make a meal out of it.
I liked the balance between gaining knowledge and putting the instruction into action. The atmosphere was relaxed and sociable and that was due to the hosts.
I really would recommend this if anyone wants to learn a bit more about cooking dishes they are not familiar with, or simply want an outing that they can share, or even go alone, with other people. Big thumbs up from us.

We really enjoyed our evening with our chef Brent and his extensive knowledge of French cuisine. The food we prepared was of excellent quality and the kitchen set up gave all an easy access to their own stove, equipment in easy view of our teacher to keep in time with his instructions. We learned important tips on the traditional cooking methods of classic French food such as the way to render the fat on a duck breast or the world famous Tarte Tatin being dead simple rather than the complication its reputation depicts. The food we ate was delicious. I am recommending to friends to join us next time - maybe Italian not sure yet

This was the simplest cooking class I have ever done. I feel I could make a pad thai or thai beef salad woth ease. With the help of pro bought curry paste could make a hald decent pad thai.

The instructor was good too. I learnt a few things. There is wild ginger - who knew?

The only thing is other cooking courses ive done the food comes out restaurant quality. Though the level of complexity was huge. Some of this finished product lacked a professional kick, but then again it was just so easy.

I learnt so much in this class! I thought I was vaguely competent with knifes in the kitchen before the class (but occasionally still knocked a finger) . From the first few minutes (of learning the grip) I knew that I’d feel more confident and never imagined I’d be trying some of the skills the instructor taught. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to cut down their prep time in the kitchen or feel more confident using sharp knifes.

The teacher was funny and witty; and provided a good explanation of how to do every step when you asked him. He was also very good at his craft, and made everything look effortless. Gave great, concise instructions which broke everything down well.

The venue was good, with good equipment and clean facilities. The whole experience was great value for money, since you also got to take home any food that was prepared which you did not manage to eat!

We learnt how to prepare several dishes from chicken saltimbocca to eggplant parmigiana. It was great fun as well, meeting some new people at the class.

My very first cooking class. overall I enjoyed the experience as I was paired with a stranger I was a bit apprehensive with that persons preference in flavors and tastes so was a bit reluctant to express my overall views, in was it to salty/sweet/savory etc.
Yes the teacher pointed out and mentioned briefly what to add. You adjust the flavors/ingredients to your taste preferences. Just I personally would have liked a bit more info (possibly in writing) in what to add in trying to adjust the tastes (ie: how to recover a meal, if it is to sweet/salty/flavorless/etc).
It was interesting that at the time I felt the Mussaman curry was a bit to sweet, but eating the left overs that night found it far better, possibly because the flavors developed

Excellent teacher. Disappointed that we did not make the classic French Eclairs as the name denoted. We used fruit to decorate eclairs. Never before have I seen French chocolate eclairs decorated with fruit.
Also, missed out on the custard making, which was, again, disappointing.

Chef Paul was a fantastic instructor! He explained the different processes thoroughly and was always open to take questions. The content was great, access to recipes was very convenient, he encouraged us to take photos of different steps of the meals, and explained the different tools and spices used. The food was delicious and there is no better way to learn than through example - the best one I've seen was explaining the cuts from brisket, and then tasting them to SEE how they differed under the same cooking time/heat/conditions. I would absolutely love to take more classes through the school!

My partner Terry and I thoroughly enjoyed our vegetarian cooking class with Paul last night. What a great teacher he is! So knowledgeable on technique and nutrition. We learnt so much from Paul on how to cook well (e.g., on ingredients, how to detect freshness, which oils and spices & the right temperature to use, how to cut corners and make cooking easy). The atmosphere was very conducive to students doing the cooking and to the teacher demonstrating. The meals we made were super delicious. Everything was very generously provided (including wine for those who wanted it). We ate the delicious food we cooked - and there was plenty to take home! We had a great time at Taste of Tuscany. Brett was informative and entertaining.
The produce we had was high quality - and delicious. The recipes we did were easy enough to follow (with good instruction to help us along), but not too easy - so we had to keep focused to produce a tasty meal for ourselves.
You eat exactly what you cook - and we were pretty happy with what we created - as was everyone else.
Class sizes are fine and Brett was able to keep a good eye on how we were all doing, and give necessary pointers at the right time. Great fun and good learning.

Coming into the class I was used to small knives (generally quite blunt) and was actually a little afraid of big sharp knives. Well I'm a changed person now. It's all in the hold and control. I never thought I would be so happy with chopping. Fabulous class. Would highly recommend. Paul was wonderful and knew his stuff. Class is 1.5 hours but easily could go on 2 hours with the many questions. The chicken salad is divine too.

Our teacher Pat was very clear and encouraged us to enjoy the experience along the way by tasting as we cooked. All the preparation of ingredients for the 3 meals were perfect and very neatly arranged. Every step was explained and steps were demonstrated when necessary for clarity. Her enthusiasm was catching and no one in the room was made to feel inadequate. I learnt that Masuman was so much better making it from scratch than taking the easy way out, and so much more satisfying AND tasty

What a beautiful experience, we had the most wonderful time. I had a celiac daughter and everything we made was gluten free. Thank you so much, we will be back. Our gorgeous chef was so knowledgeable too. We loved every minute of it.

We had such a wonderful experience by joining the meat lovers class run by Paul. He is so experienced and patient on demonstration. Had a lot of meat and even came home with 2 contains meat. Thanks Paul! Just one point to mention: we don't know lots of terminology during the class we are not native speakers, which made it a bit hard for us to fully follow the instruction. But we indeed had lots of fun!

My 16 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed Paul's class. We enjoyed learning about the science of the food and cooking methods, equipment and timing. Venue was open, airy, comfortable. We tucked into delicious salmon, pulled pork burger, ribs,brisket, salads, slaw and corn. There were also some to take home also. I recommend anyone looking to elevate their bbq techniques and to get the most value out of your cooking at home, to give this class a go.

Paul was incredibly knowledgeable and the food was delicious! It was a different style of cooking class where we watched and learned with some hands on activities which made it a very relaxed evening but so beneficial in teaching us some new skills to try at home! Paul taught us alot about baking including alot of the fundamental background to the area. The others in the group struggled with the meringue piping so maybe some more time needs to be spent on that technique
